Learning experience & Instructional Design
Since 2014, I have been designing virtual, hybrid, and in-person learning experiences as well as providing education strategy for complex training paths. I use client discovery sessions, backward design, and adult learning theory for blended, engaging, constructive, and modular learning products. Clients include MAPS, Denver Sheriff’s Department, General Assembly, The Development Factory, District Zero, Software Habit, and San Diego Museum of Art.
get there | 2018
TASK | Analyze an existing course consisting of 5 live video sessions, then re-conceptualize, design, and develop an interactive online course comprised of 10 units with 50 elements that are ready to be filmed and produced for online learning. The project scope generated 10 training modules, including lesson plans, slide decks (for videos), custom tools, printable worksheets, guided meditations, pre-work, and homework assignments.
discovery sessions + backwards design
Clients can have lofty visions for their course content. Beginning the design process by first detailing the final student outcomes – and designing the course backwards from there – is an effective approach to planning how to teach the skills and concepts students will need to be successful.
student journey map
Mapping the student journey allows us to visualize the flow and cadence of varied methods of engagement, and patterns of active and passive learning.
minimalist slides
Minimalist slides form the foundation of an interactive video that will incorporate recorded video, voiceover, demonstrations, and quick checks for understanding.
creating tools for course
The client wanted a way for students to easily and reliably assess their commit to their goals, so I built a simple calculator to do the trick.
curriculum index
A master list of all the deliverables helps to sequence the learning objectives and delivery formats. An internal directory for all lesson plans, video scripts, custom tools, slides, and graphic organizers.
