CLOUD GIRL | a children’s picture book
in development
I've written and illustrated a children's picture book about a 'Cloud Girl' -- the name given to the brave young women who, in the 1940s-50s, worked and lived in the fire lookout towers of the Pacific Northwest.
STORY BRIEF
The story opens with a look at daily life for a solitary Cloud Girl in her remote fire lookout tower. As a storm approaches, she must act quickly to respond to a wildfire and guide the first responders. Ending peacefully, we learn that sometimes victory looks different than we expect. The story touches on themes of self-reliance and interconnectedness.
